Disinfection in Chicken Hatch Incubators by Royal Pas Reform

Royal Pas Reform and Ikeuchi

Royal Pas Reform is one of the leading companies in the hatching industry and the world’s only single-source supplier of integrated hatchery solutions. The company was established in 1919 in Zeddam in the Netherlands.

The problem

Disinfection is a fundamental part of running a successful hatchery. If just one contaminated egg should crack within the incubator, it could jeopardize the entire batch. Bacteria may spread to other eggs or newly hatched chicks. Once micro-organisms penetrate the shell, they reach the  membrane within minutes and become resistant to the disinfectant. The eggs should also be disinfected before they enter the incubator during the last days before hatching. Royal Pas Reform was looking for a spray nozzle solution which could easily be built into their hatchers without the need for compressed air.

The solution

After consulting with Ikeuchi, Royal Pas Reform decided to test a hydraulic KBN nozzle which is known for the finest atomization amongst our hydraulic spray nozzles. The result was excellent as the KBN nozzle could disinfect the batches in the hatchers without wetting the eggs excessively while preserving the disinfection liquid.

The result

After testing the KBN spray nozzles for disinfection in the hatchers, Royal Pas Reform decided to incorporate the spray nozzles as standard. These hatchers are currently used across the world for safe and hygienic hatching. The result can be seen in the photo below.

KBN – high pressure spray nozzles

  • Ultra-small capacity hollow cone spray nozzle with the finest atomization among hydraulic nozzles.
  • Capable of generating extremely fine spray.
  • Minimal clogging with a free passage diameter of 1.3 – 2.6 mm times bigger than that of conventional nozzles.
  • The whirl chamber is formed by a ceramic orifice and closer, which provides excellent wear resistance.
  • Cooling: Poultry farms, Outside cooling
  • Humidifying: Air handling units, greenhouses
  • Spraying: Alcohol, disinfectant
